Supporting Sydney’s NYE celebrations

|

Sydney celebrates New Year’s Eve (NYE) every year with a party that wows the world with its style and spectacle. The main event features one of the world’s largest, most technologically advanced displays of fireworks, lighting and projections. Sydney NYE plays live to more than 1 million spectators along the Sydney Harbour foreshore and reaches a global audience of more than 1 billion.

With the influx of people comes the requirement for additional onsite facilities and amenities to ensure everyone has a fun and safe NYE celebration. With spectators starting to arrive in the early hours of the 31 December each year, facilities need to be up and running within tight timeframes and removed equally fast to return public spaces to normal.

Since the previous millennium Onsite Rental Group have supported several regional customers, including The Rocks, Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Harbour Shore & Northern Beaches with their NYE events. Within a 48-hour window Onsite delivered and subsequently removed over 600 pieces of equipment ranging from SUPERLOO® single toilet units, toilet blocks, lighting towers and VMS traffic management solutions.

This was a huge coordination project requiring precision planning for the complex logistics scenarios that were tackled. Added to this was that some of the units were required for delivery on the day to fit in with the individual organiser’s schedules. Some of the large units required specialist installation services included plumbing, electrics and ramps/access paths to the accessible units.

To ensure all assets were maintained to the highest possible standard, 42 of our specialist staff worked tirelessly to manage these operations. On NYE Onsite staff were engaged to work through the evening in supporting roles including cleaners, mechanics, service technicians and VMS operators. The VMS boards were used to communicate key messages to spectators throughout the evening, with our VMS operators stationed in the control centres with security and event organisers to manage the messages throughout the festivities.

Len Riley Regional Operations Manager – NSW said, “it is testament to the hard work and dedicated of our staff, suppliers and logistics operators that this night was a success. The fact that we are invited back each year to support the same customers with their NYE events shows that all our efforts are appreciated. Amazing teamwork was displayed by all and we look forward to providing the same high-quality, specialist rental management services for NYE 2020 and beyond”.
