Onsite has a long-standing legacy of providing specialist rental equipment and shutdown tooling to many of Australia’s Major Mining organisations. Most recently Onsite delivered a wide range of equipment to a major Ore producer on Finucane Island as part of their Shut- Line 7 programme. Along with mining specification fleet, Onsite provided:
At Onsite we pride ourselves on working in collaboration with our customers to fulfil their project requirements. In this instance, our Port Hedland and Nelson Point branches pulled out all the stops to deliver the above equipment a week earlier than planned when the shut was brought forward to tie in with the customers wider maintenance operations.
The Pilbara Iron Ore producers’ reserve base is relatively concentrated which has allowed development to be planned around integrated mining hubs which are connected to the mines and satellite orebodies by conveyors. This approach enables the value of customers infrastructure assets to be maximised by using the same processing plants and rail infrastructure for several orebodies.
At each mining hub the iron ore is crushed, beneficiated (removal of waste) and blended to create high-grade iron ore products. The iron ore products are then transported along the Port Hedland–Newman Rail Line to the Finucane Island and Nelson Point port facilities in Port Hedland. The Finucane Island and Nelson Point port facilities consist of processing, stockpiling and ship loading operations, located on the opposite sides of the Port Hedland Inner Harbour. Finucane Island has a one-kilometre sub-sea concrete tunnel that links the island to the Port Hedland operations, the tunnel contains a conveyor capable of transporting 10,000 tonnes of processed iron ore per hour.
